The project had a very successful and interesting project meeting, for which we are particularly grateful to our hosts EE, in organising a meeting room on their premises, refreshments, and for the attendance of several members of their team. Very useful discussions were also held with attendees from Viavi and BT, for which the researchers are also very grateful.
A NIRVANA project meeting is being held at the University of Kent, Jennison Building. As well as the Essex and Kent researchers, we welcome the attendance of representatives of NEC and VIAVI Solutions.
The next NIRVANA face-to-face meeting will be in Canterbury on 12th March, 2015.
There will be a Royal Society discussion meeting – this is information from Jenna Lane at the Royal Society:
Discussion Meeting: Communication networks beyond the capacity crunch
11 – 12 May 2015 The Royal Society, London https://royalsociety.org/events/2015/05/communication-networks/
Satellite meeting: Communication networks beyond the capacity crunch – further discussion 13 – 14 May 2015 The Royal Society at Chicheley Hall, home of the Kavli Royal Society Centre, Buckinghamshire https://royalsociety.org/events/2015/05/communication-networks-sm/
The satellite meeting at is intended to be a more focused discussion of the issues raised during the London discussion meeting, and possible solutions. The organisers intend that many of the talks at the satellite meeting will be given by early-career researchers and we have recently opened a call for proposals for short talks and posters to be presented at this meeting. I would be very grateful if you could share this information with any relevant colleagues – both in the UK and overseas, to encourage applications. The call closes on 6 February.
More information on how to apply is available on the meeting webpage, and the Royal Society is able to offer travel and accommodation support to participants selected to make a full presentation. https://royalsociety.org/events/2015/05/communication-networks-sm/
The final meeting of the UNISON Photonics Outreach Network, funded by EPSRC, was held yesterday in London. Themes for a possible follow-on network were discussed. NIRVANA and other projects funded by the TI3 call were briefly outlined, and those involved in these projects who were present, looked forward to a coordination meeting.
The first NIRVANA face-to-face meeting was held on Monday, 15th December, 2014 at the University of Kent. Apart from researchers from Essex and Kent, we welcomed industry partners from JDSU (UK), BT and Techgate (and virtually, briefly, from NEC). The next face-to-face meeting is planned for Thursday, 12th March.
